WHAT is The Storyteller Gene?

Taking your writing project as its starting point, TSG is comprised of six modules that guide you from the initial idea through to a finished manuscript, with written work submitted for feedback at significant stages of the journey. All technical aspects of dramatic writing are covered, with the added emphasis on discovering how to harmonise the conscious and subconscious parts of the brain. In this way The Storyteller Gene aims to overcome any debilitating self-doubt and limiting beliefs you may have, enabling you to do your very best work.

WHO is it for?

The course is for anyone and everyone who wants to write. It doesn’t matter what your chosen medium is. Theatre? Radio, TV or film? Short story or novel? I offer professional advice on how to approach all these. All writing is ‘dramatic writing’, in that it seeks to connect with others on a deep level. We all struggle, at some point, to find that level in ourselves. The Storyteller Gene puts you on the right path and keeps you there.

HOW does it work?

The six modules and accompanying videos cover every aspect of writing, from the initial idea up to a workable first draft. The emphasis is on the ‘hero’s journey’ and how his or her actions reflect our own fears and desires. Along the way there are assignments that can be submitted for analysis and feedback. The Storyteller Gene is interactive and intensely personal, just like the best drama.

WHY invest in the course?

My starting point is that no one can tell your story but you. But with the pace and pressures of modern life we can sometimes lose faith in the project – and in ourselves. What I’m sharing is the antidote to a problem that has led many writers to despair. Your creativity is a vital part of who you are, it defines you. What if I don't have an idea for a story but just want to write?

The desire to write is all you need. The course is designed to help you bring ideas, thoughts and feelings from where they have been lying dormant in your subconscious to the surface, where they can be turned into stories that reflect your concerns and powerfully connect with your audience.

How long do I have to submit the assignments?

Some assignments will clearly take longer than others. You can take as long as you like with each module but for Levels One and Two learners the cut-off is one year after signing. All assignments must be handed over by that time. For Level Three learners this period is extended by three months.

Suppose after receiving the course I change my mind and don't wish to continue?

There is a 30-day money back guarantee, so you are perfectly safe.

What happens if I'm paying in instalments?

In this case you receive each new module separately, once payment has cleared and your assignment has been submitted. Instalments are calculated such that you will pay a little more than the full fee, but you are free to stop paying at any time, after which no further modules will be sent.

Three Levels of learning.

The first thing to say is that I’m your guide and mentor, not your boss. My aim is to keep you on the right path, and that means your path, not mine. Only when you have brought your story to light in your own unique way will you enjoy the immense pleasure that is the reward for creating something that moves and entertains an audience. Is there a secret to all that? Yes, it’s this: be moved, be surprised, be delighted with your story. Fall in love with your capacity to create! You have everything you need. What level should I choose?

Level One:

If you need a no-nonsense, solid foundation to kick-start your writing project, a course that is therapy-based, that helps you to get past those hang-ups and limiting beliefs, and that also offers detailed, written feedback on your story, its aims and internal structure, then this level may be all you need.

Level Two:

Comes with six half-hour zoom calls. Here the intention is to delve deeper into not just your story but also your personal goals and ambitions. In those calls I will share first-hand experience of writing for theatre, radio, TV and even working in Hollywood, all dependent on where you are at in your own journey. By getting to know you on a personal level, I can tailor the course to your specific needs.

Level Three

Is an intensive, year-long mentoring package that includes everything in the previous two levels but over twelve months instead of six. That means twelve half-hour zoom calls, one a month, as well as written feedback on all submissions regardless of length. If you are looking for a professional script consultant to support you with considered and non-judgemental advice every step of the way, right up until that all-important first draft is complete, then please choose this level.
